Introduction
Deciding on what dimension cross-over to buy can be challenging. Do you get a huge cross-over for maximum internal space and spacious third-row seating? Or do you get a little cross-over for easier city ability to move and higher energy economy? For some individuals, the center ground is the way to go, which is why the 2013 Ford Edge midsize cross-over should speak out loud with many customers.
This popularity mostly arises from the Edges relatively manoeuvrable dimension, its attractive internal and many available high-tech functions. The latter contains items such as flexible vacation management, blind-spot caution and cross-traffic aware, a dual-screen rear-seat enjoyment program, the Synchronize speech control program and the MyFord Contact electronic interface.
The Edge also features an overall generating experience that seems Western in personality, with a feeling of balance and low street disturbance. A 285-horsepower V6 engine is conventional, and a fuel-efficient, turbocharged four-cylinder engine s optionally available. Unusually, you have to pay extra to get the four-cylinder, but it at the same time generates strong energy and amazing gas mileage (30 mpg highway). With these energy savings alone, it would take an approximated four years for this "EcoBoost" engine hoice to pay for itself.
The 2013 Ford Edge does have a couple disEdge, the most significant being these MyFord Contact gadgets interface thats attracted critique from customers and our publishers as well for being challenging to figure out and annoying to use. There are also a few other crossovers that might appeal more, such as the off-road-capable Vehicle Huge Cherokee or the in the same way elegant Car Murano. But the Edge is a decent choice and is worth a look if you want something thats not too big or too little.

Also optionally available are a rearview camera and the MyFord Contact program, which is an gadgets interface that has a huge central touchscreen display, two additional shows in the evaluate group, improved leader manages, improved Ford Edge Synchronize functions (turn-by-turn routing and visitors reports) and a second USB slot for sound devices. The SEL appearance program contributes 20-inch tires, specific head- and taillamp treatments, a body-colored grill and unique leather sitting.
From there, the Edge collection forks into two guidelines. The Edge Restricted comes with most of the above devices plus 18-inch firefox tires, warmed decorative mirrors, an eight-way energy traveler seat and a 12-speaker Sony designs speakers with HD stereo system. The Driver Entry program incorporates keyless ignition/entry, remote key and a energy liftgate (available independently on the SEL). Also optionally available are 20-inch tires, xenon headlamps and flexible vacation management with a accident caution program.
The Edge sport, in contrast, basically comes with all of the SELs conventional and optionally available devices along with a more powerful V6 engine, 22-inch tires, a sport-tuned revocation, unique external design and the Sony designs speakers.
All but the SE can be prepared with several other choices. The Perspective program contributes automated wipers and a blind-spot caution program with cross-traffic aware. The voice-activated routing program contains real-time visitors, weather and other information through the satellite tv stereo system nourish. There is also a spectacular sunroof and a rear-seat enjoyment program with double seat shows. A hauling program with trailer-sway management is available only on V6-powered SEL and Restricted designs.
Performance
The 2013 Ford Edge comes conventional with a 3.5-liter V6 which makes 285 hp and 253 pound-feet of twisting. A six-speed automated gearbox and front-wheel generate are conventional, but all-wheel generate is optionally available. EPA-estimated gas mileage appears at 19 mpg city/27 mpg street and 22 mpg mixed. That falls to 18/25/21 with all-wheel generate.
Optional on all but the Edge sport is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (dubbed EcoBoost) which makes 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of twisting. A six-speed automated mixed to front-wheel generate is the only settings available.

Safety
Antilock disk braking system, balance management, front-seat part protection bags and full-length part layer protection bags are all conventional. Also conventional is the automated Ford Edge MyKey program, which allows parents to limit vehicle rate and stereo system volume for teenager motorists. Optional on all cuts except the SE is a Perspective program that contains blind-spot and cross-traffic caution systems. The Restricted can be prepared with a accident caution program.
In the most recent government accident assessments, the Edge obtained an overall ranking of four out of five celebrities. Within that score, it obtained three celebrities for overall front security and five celebrities for overall part security. In Insurance Institution for Highway Safety accident assessments, the Edge obtained the highest possible ranking of "Good" in the frontal-offset, side-impact and ceiling strength assessments.
The Interior Design and Special Features
The 2013 Ford Edge functions a modern-looking internal, especially on designs prepared with MyFord Contact. This interface includes three shows and the ability to feedback instructions for various sound, phone and routing functions via speech, touch manages or control buttons on the leader. Its a smart idea theoretically, but in practice weve found the control buttons challenging to recognize at a look and too easy to press unintentionally.
The Edges front part seat provide excellent support on longer visits. In back, the postioned outboard seat are nicely formed and offer acceptable legroom, but headroom can be tight if you order the dual-pane "Vista Roof" choice. Furthermore, the center seat is for short visits only due to its slablike seatback. Should you need a third-row seat, we suggest the Ford Edge Bend.
Without the energy liftgate, the Edges back hatch out can be hard for smaller motorists to close. Cargo potential is a decent 32 cubic legs with the back burner in use; foldable it down reveals up a not-so-flat freight ground and a max potential of 69 pieces. Thats more than a Car Murano can manage, but less than the Traveler or bigger crossovers like the Bend and Chevrolet Navigate.

Driving Impressions
The 2013 Ford Edge is most significant for its comfortable, well-composed drive and a cottage packed complete of sound insulating material that provides an ultra-quiet, vaultlike environment. Managing is strong and secure, with a less complicated feel around sides and in vehicle parking lots than its bigger Ford Edge cross-over friends. The sport model is, indeed, a little bit clearer and more nimble, but its tremendous tires break down quality of drive to the point where we doubt many motorists will accept the bargain.
The use of a four-cylinder engine in the heavy Edge may seem silly, but this turbocharged energy plant generates more twisting than the platform V6 and gets considerably better gas mileage. Its also amazingly silent in operation, and really, if it was the only motor available we wouldnt grumble. Still, the platform V6 is nevertheless a strong work that few individuals should find wanting for energy. The Edge sport prevails for those few, but that models bulkier control weight mostly negates its energy advantage. The conventional six-speed automated connected to all of the above is enhanced for energy performance, and as such can be slow to downshift.
